Better weeks coming ahead

The year is nearly halfway over, and Wall Street appears to be on even shakier ground than when it began 2008. And this shortened week ahead of the Fourth of July holiday is unlikely to bring the market enough proof that the economic climate is improving.

The Dow Jones industrial average is down more than 14 percent for the year and has given up all the gains it made since September 2006.

Back in January, investors knew there was potential for the price of oil, which was on the verge of $100 a barrel, to keep rising, but most didn't predict crude would surpass $140 a barrel. Economists figured that home prices had further to fall, but no one was sure how much. And when banks said the worst of the credit crunch was behind them in January, and then again in April, traders believed them.

Now, all the angst that has upended the stock market over the past year is back and more intense than ever. The main reason is that there is no historical precedent for what's happening in either the energy or credit markets.

Congress is trying to stop oil speculation

Close loopholes on foreign oil trading. Limit hedge funds from pouring money into the market. End oil speculation altogether.

Congress is vowing to take actions that it believes will reverse runaway crude and gasoline prices. Oil rose above $136 a barrel on Monday - more than double what it cost a year ago - and gas hovered around $4.07 a gallon.

Lawmakers have introduced nine different bills on speculation - not to mention many more that tackle other causes of escalating fuel and oil prices. Several of the speculation measures have bipartisan support. No fewer than four separate hearings have been scheduled for this week, including a House hearing held Monday exploring foreign trade regulation.

On Tuesday, a Senate panel will explore legislative options for ending "excessive speculation" in commodity markets.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said she wants to address speculation on the House floor this week or the week of July 7. A spokesman for Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Mich., one of the strongest advocates for legislation, said he believes one of the proposals could get voted on by the House in July.

Bring your company to a new level of cooperation

I don’t know if you have ever worked in a group but I am sure that it is a common fact that most people tend to work on big groups just as they jobs require to. As a result of that, all the companies should pay major attention and give importance to the way their groups of workers work with each other and cooperate.

Keeping this in mind, I would like to emphasis the importance of Kouzes and Posner leadership challenge as one of the best ways to allow all your contributors and workers to work with each other in a much more posiive way that will surely lead your comapony to better overall results on the marketplace! Moreover, it will also increase the friendships of the workers allowing them to cooperate with much more intensity and care to the general issues of their work, etc…

So, what are you waiting for? Just bring your company to a whole new level and see for yourself how much your company could win with that!

Consumers should be heard...

Consumers expecting business conditions to deteriorate outnumbered those who expected an improvement by more than three-to-one. Those expecting more job losses topped those expecting an improvement in the labor market by more than four-to-one.

So who's right? Even some economists think it's not a good idea to ignore what consumers are saying.

"I would guess that the consumers are going to be right," said Keith Hembre, chief economist First American Funds.

He said the combination of record high energy prices, rising unemployment and job losses, a historically bad housing market and continued tightening of credit gives consumers every reason to expect the economy to get worse.

"Those four headwinds are not fading," Hembre said.

Lynn Franco, director of The Conference Board's Consumer Research Center, suggested that with consumers feeling so grim, they may pull back on plans to make big-ticket purchases. That can slow the economy even further than current experts are forecasting.

In fact, the Conference Board survey showed consumers' intentions to buy just about every type of big-ticket item, from cars to appliances, fell this month. The only thing consumers planned to buy more of was air conditioners. Fewer Americans also planned to take a vacation, according to the survey.

Mobile marketing services for your company

Press Release:

SJA Mobile & FBI Launch SMS Tipline
--------------

SJA Mobile today jointly announced with the FBI’s Washington D.C Field Office and Metropolitan Police an initiative which will enable D.C-area citizens to anonymously report crime tips via a novel new medium – SMS. SMS, or “text messaging,” has up until now never been used before as a medium for crime tips.
Citizens in the D.C area can report a crime or homeland security tip by sending a text message with the tip to the number 50411. The 5-digit number to text to is called a “Short Code.” Currently the service is available on all major wireless carriers, along with several Tier 2 carriers.
SJA Mobile is in talks expand the service to several other major cities.

My opinion:

As the owner of a small company, have you ever found yourself in a situation where you just wished you could let all the clients and resellers be informed about a very important update in a matter of seconds using the SMS services? Well, you surely want to exploit every single capability of your mobile phone for sure but you probably don’t know how to take full advantage of that and use it to achieve even more success for your company.

Keeping this in mind, I would like to make a reference to SJA Mobile as the ultimate way of getting in touch with the people you work with simply by using the text message service with which you deal on a daily basis! So, if you are so familiar with this technology and if you have a company providing you the services that will allow you to take full advantage of that same technology, what could possibly go wrong and how couldn’t your company benefit from it? If I was the owner of a bigger company I wouldn’t think twice and I would contract this service! In fact, I hope that in some years my company is big enough to have such a text messaging service on mobile marketing, content and billing. The value of these services is just too obvious and I am sure that you will surely figure that out as soon as you visit the very user-friendly website to which I have just linked above.

House rebound is just by the corner!

If prices are going to stabilize, let alone rebound, the United States needs to produce far more first-time home buyers than new houses. That's the only way to tame the glut of "For Sale" signs dotting front yards from the Inland Empire of California to the Gold Coast of Florida.

Builders constructed far more homes from 2002 until 2006 - the peak bubble years - than could possibly be absorbed by the normal growth in households.

As a result, the market is now swamped with one million new and existing homes for sale that aren't occupied, and hence need to sell quickly. That's a multiple of the figure in most downturns, and it testifies to the duration and girth of the bubble.

"For the recovery to begin, builders need to eliminate the standing inventory of finished, unoccupied new homes," says Mike Castleman, founder of Metrostudy, which assembles sales data on four million subdivisions across the U.S.

The massive overhang of unsold inventory has remained stubbornly high. Sure, builders cut back, but sales dropped just as quickly.

Now that excess supply is finally beginning to shrink. In April, the number of new homes for sale stood at 456,000 according to the U.S. Commerce Department, still a big number, but 93,000 below the mountainous figure a year ago.

Obama is on his way...

Barack Obama has made one part of his plan for the capital gains tax perfectly clear: He wants to raise the rate above 15% for high-income investors.

But to what level: 20%? 23%? 27%? All Obama has said is that it would be at least 20% and less than 28%.

The choice the presumptive Democratic nominee for president makes will matter to investors and to federal coffers. It's one of the many crucial tax details he and his advisers have yet to settle as they campaign against Republican rival John McCain.

One reason Obama says he wants to raise the rate is to establish more fairness in the tax system. A low rate directly benefits high-income taxpayers the most since they hold more taxable investments than everyone else.

Yet Obama is also banking on revenue from a higher capital gains rate to help pay for some of his proposals, such as new tax cuts for less-than-flush families and a system to make health insurance affordable for all.

"What I want is not oppressive taxation. I want businesses to thrive," he said in a Democratic presidential debate this spring.

banks asking Fed for more money...

Wall Street companies and commercial banks borrowed slightly more from the Federal Reserve's emergency lending program over the past week.

A Fed report released Thursday said the investment firms averaged $8.6 billion in daily borrowing for the week ending June 18. That compared with $8.4 billion the previous week.

The investment houses were given similar loan privileges as commercial banks in March after a run on Bear Stearns pushed the nation's fifth-largest investment bank to the brink of bankruptcy and raised fears that other Wall Street firms might be in jeopardy.

Banks, meanwhile, averaged $13.4 billion in daily borrowing for the week. That compared with $13.1 billion in the previous week.

The identities of commercial banks and investment houses are not released.

Wall street reform is needed!

Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson pressed for swift changes to how the nation's financial system is regulated Thursday, most notably giving broader powers to the Federal Reserve following the dramatic near collapse of Bear Stearns in March.

Paulson promoted the reform plan he pitched in late March. This time, however, he stressed the need to act sooner rather than later in a speech given in Washington, D.C..

"We must dramatically expand our attention to the fundamental needs of our system, and move much more quickly to update our regulatory structure," Paulson said.

Did the Federal reserve made a mistake?

Wall Street thinks the Federal Reserve is almost certainly done cutting interest rates for the time being.

But as inflation fears rattle Wall Street, some economists are beginning to wonder if the Fed went too far by cutting rates as much as it did in such a short period of time.

The central bank is widely expected to leave its key federal funds rate at 2% after a two-day policy meeting next Tuesday and Wednesday. That would be the first time the Fed left rates steady following seven rate cuts since last September.

The fed funds rate is the central bank's key lever to spur economic growth or slow it in an effort to keep prices in check. It is used as a benchmark to set rates paid by consumers on many types of loans, such as adjustable rate mortgages, home equity lines and credit cards, as well as for many types of business loans.

Typically, the Fed lowers rates when it is concerned about the economy slowing and raises rates when it is more worried about inflation.

If you are a programmer, then get the job of your dreams!

As you certainly know from your own experience, it may be really hard to get a job these days and that’s why we cannot let a good chance pass us by. In fact, most people tend to be unable to figure out that they have came across their perfect job at a certain time in their lives and so they just struggle years after when they realize what they have lost…
Keeping this in mind, I would like to suggest you to grab the amazing chance of being the PHP programmer of destinia.com, or just as the Spanish say “Programador de PHP para Destinia” as they are now looking forward to get in contact with an experienced PHP programmer who has, at least, 2 years of professional experience on this business and who is ready to take the challenge of his life! Moreover, you must also be a specialist dealing with UML, XML, Javascript, AJAX, LINUX so that you can fulfil your job and destinia.com with all the needed experience and specialization possible! Being in touch with a flights and travels database is also an extra that could help you get the job… Just in case you are wondering, the place where you will have to work is Madrid and it won’t be difficult for you to love the city, it’s simply amazing!
So, what are you waiting for? Go and grab the chance of your life as a PHP programmer and try to take full advantage of being part of the staff of the best "agencia de viajes", just as the Spanish call the travel agencies, in the whole world by the name of destinia.com

Obama believes he has the solution for the USA

After I read some recent news on CNN i was really amazed and so i must ask you to see for yourself:

"On the first day of what is to be a two-week economic tour around the country, Barack Obama said Monday that lawmakers should inject another $50 billion immediately into the sluggish U.S. economy.

The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee cited the largest monthly increase in the unemployment rate in over 20 years, and record highs in oil prices, food prices and foreclosures.

"Such relief can't wait until the next president takes office. ... That's why I've called for another round of fiscal stimulus, an immediate $50 billion to help those who've been hit hardest by this economic downturn," Obama told a crowd in Raleigh, N.C.

He said that he supports the expansion and extension of unemployment benefits, as well as a second round of tax rebate checks."

Isn't it unbelivable that Obama is already thinking about more and more rebates for the citizens?

Wedding rings and bands that you will certainly love!

As I am sure that you know, the process of selecting our own wedding rings may not be as easy as we could wish, simply because there is no way how we can make such an important decision in just some minutes, right?

Keeping this in mind, I would like to advise you to take a look at the website above and see for yourself how much you could save both if you decide to buy wedding rings or wedding bands. In fact, there is enough diversity available on the website to cover the needs of every single person you could think of! As a matter of fact, I was able to find a very beautiful wedding ring as you can see below:

I have always been a fan of celtic rings and so you can easily see why I picked the ring above. Moreover, as the website is extremely easy to navigate and as you are given the chance to read some very useful and complete descriptions of each product, it will be extremely easy for you to imagine the beauty of the original item whenever you decide to buy it and see it when it arrives to your home! Furthermore, there is also a information that will inform you about the normal retail price of each piece, allowing you to see how much you will be saving when you decide to buy any item on the website…

In what relates to the store itself, I found the website very user-friendly and intuitive, still I think that the website could have a much more professional look by improving the top of the page and creating a major logo of the website, which would match the same beauty and bright of any piece of art available on the website! Finally, I would also like to see PayPal as one of the payment methods available and compatible with the store simply because most people tend to use it all the time nowadays. The general feeling about the website is that the information, interface and images are just perfect while all what needs improvement is the top of the page and a possible better concept of the overall design of the page. These changes could be made on the blink of an eye so I am really looking forward them.

I really hope that you love these wedding accessories just as much as I did and that you can find the perfect piece for you and the person you love!

Gas prices: most people think that the government could solve our problem...

With a nationwide average gas price of just about $4 a gallon, lots of people are thinking there must be something the government can do to help.

Some things which contribute to high gas prices are largely out of the government's control. OPEC will produce as little oil as it sees fit, largely independent of any U.S. intervention. Developing nations will continue to subsidize gas prices, helping their growing economies and keeping demand high.

Areas where the government can help, like a big push into alternative energy, more drilling in the United States, or a jump in fuel efficiency standards, will take years to materialize. Even then, any price decline is likely to be small.

As consumers scramble to adjust their lives to deal with high gas prices experts debate what the government can do to help in the short term.

It's unclear if any of the ideas being discussed will work. Some say Americans will just have to deal with $4 gas and learn to use less of it.

Rebates continue..... this is the 5th week

The Treasury Department said Friday it sent out 5.7 million economic stimulus payments this week, totaling more than $4 billion, as part of the government's plan to reinvigorate the nation's sluggish economy.

This week's total was the lowest since the first payments went out on April 28

In the first week, Treasury sent out $7.1 billion and last week, Treasury mailed more than 6.2 million checks totaling about $5 billion.

To date, Treasury has distributed more than 57.4 million stimulus payments, totaling more than $50 billion.

The pace of printing and mailing the stimulus checks has slowed in recent weeks as Treasury facilities have been working to get regular income tax refund checks out in a timely fashion simultaneously. But the slowdown is just temporary.

The department expects weekly volumes to increase in June when regular tax refund mailings are complete.

This week's numbers represent the near completion of all directly deposited stimulus checks, the Treasury Department said. Paper checks will continue to be mailed until the department reaches its planed $100 billion goal. To qualify for a stimulus payment, individuals and households must file an income tax return.
